Pine Valley Christmas Quilt with Easy Evergreen Trees

The holiday season is upon us and what better way than to celebrate this festive time than to enjoy making the Pine Valley Christmas Quilt that captures the serene beauty of evergreen trees blanketed in snow and the timeless appeal of a classic red barn with a radiant star on it.

The easy-to-make evergreen trees are made using simple traditional piecing (no foundation paper piecing or templates needed) and they are so charming in shades of green, creating movement and interest in the quilt. You feel like you’re walking through a Christmas tree farm to the big red barn.

A Classic Red Barn

To complete the scene, a wonderful red barn featuring a crisp white star serves as the focal point for this classic Christmas scene. This barn is also traditionally pieced and uses the same easy technique learned in making the trees, no foundation paper piecing here.

There are 4 sizes included in the beautiful & easy Pine Valley Christmas quilt pattern which offers small throw, large throw, twin size and queen size options. The small throw size is “fun-sized” for a quick project. Make it for yourself or as a gift for someone special, perfect size for an adult or child. Pick any color combination, red and greens for Christmas, or change the colors to neutrals for a beautiful winter scene to enjoy all season long.

Whether you drape it over a couch, hang it as a wall hanging, or gift it to a friend it will definitely make a heartwarming addition to your holiday decor.

How I Quilted the Pine Valley Christmas Quilt

This quilt needed snowflakes! So I chose this fun Let It Snow Quilting Stencil from Quilting Creations. First I did straight-line quilting on the sashing to help secure all the blocks. Then I used the stencil to mark the snowflake design on the tree blocks and had fun free-motion quilting them. This design is a larger scale stipple design, so it was quick & easy to do. Also, it is a continuous design so you could use it over the whole quilt, but I just used it within the block and did my own swirl to close the design. For the barn, I did some outlining and then used the Let It Snow stencil to mark a cute little swirl and snowflake in the doorway and on the star.
